Community Interest Home Education Group, with Learning, Adventure & Wellness in South Gloucestershire

At The Edventure Project we strive to create a social community group and achieve the following for the families and community that use us to support their home education: to create enriching, engaging and empowering social, play, wellness and learning clubs for children and young people that’s sustainable, adaptable and personalised. We believe that our group should be affordable and accessible to all, both within the home education community and for those not accessing mainstream schooling in South Gloucestershire and surrounding counties.
Do you wish for your children to go to a group (club) where firstly they are allowed to be themselves, but secondly they are encouraged to be an active part of a community? Do you want them to go to a place where they are given access to the tools they need to become healthy, informed and responsible members of society and aspiring them to achieve great things for themselves and the world?
We wish and want the same for children and young people; including our own.

The Edventure Project uses the term "Education" in the form of "Enlightening Experiences" and we fully anticipate that our mentors will be learning as much from and with the children and young people, as they will through the activities we facilitate (offer). Our clubs, projects and workshops are consciously offered to our members to support and complement their overall Home Education especially social skills, not replace or be instead of. We wish to work alongside the children and young people, and their families, to offer socialisation opportunities, teamwork and independent activities including life skills, permaculture, art and creativity to name a few. Learning to be responsible for their own health and well-being is particularly important and with a thread of self direction, it means our members feel more engaged, more open, more confident with their own "Enlightening Experiences". We hope that our members will also feel heard, accepted and know that they can make a difference to themselves and others in our project.

We are also delighted to announce from Sept 2023, our collaboration with Frome Valley Growing Project and their site manager Kate MacDonald for weekly Monday sessions for home educated children and young people at our site. Combining bushcraft, forest school, mindfulness in nature, and permaculture principles the team will offer gentle, seasonal, heart centred nature based sessions that link to the celtic wheel of year. Kate will be supporting to create our own growing space at Mafeking to enable a "Mud to Mouth" type project.

About Us

From the Beginning

Wonder. Explore. Question. Experiment. These are just a few of the skills and qualities that children will develop at The Edventure Project. Since our founding, we’ve focused on supporting kids during all transitions throughout childhood into adulthood.

The Edventure Project is the brainchild of Kimberley Vallis (Co-Director) who home (flexi) educates her boys and wanted more from the system, more from the local Home Education support and more for her outside the box kids. Inspiring and enticing local business woman and mum, Kara Penney, the two women created this unique community club for children and young people out of the traditional schooling system; whether elected home educated or other in other situations.

All offered activities are deeply considered and designed to adequately nurture the emotional and intellectual growth of our members. Through offering stimulating situations and hands-on enlightening experiences, our participants are free to develop into bright minds. Our Edventure Clubs

The Full Edventure

All Day Access to Clubs and Workshops

Mondays & Tuesdays

09:30-14:30

Access to the Full Edventure for all focused sessions - Mindful Mornings, Cooking Club and Active Afternoons. Plus activities offered or facilitated on problem solving, critical thinking, arts and craft, life skills, nature and bushcraft, experiments and often with literacy and numeracy weaved in. With emotional, physical and spiritual development through semi-structured bespoke programmes decided by the attendees and their families.

With holistic Forest School and The School of Life influences, much coaching and learning will be done hands on alongside the mentors. ASDAN Opportunities available.

Three age group ratios:

Acorn - 5-7 years

Birch - 8-10 years

Chestnut - 11+ years.

Though our tribe do all mix together at times - ebbs and flows.

Mindful Mornings

Morning Session 09:30-12:15 (2.75hrs)

We will start the day with a mindfulness as decided by the group during our circle time. Whether its a nature walk, animal care, communal yoga, breathwork, mindful art and crafting and/or meditation to set our intentions for the day. .

Enjoying this time, space and conversation with our community members, it's wonderful too see friendships blossom. Looking after our minds, body and souls includes socialisation and supports positive mental wellbeing and reduces isolation that can sometimes be seen in the Home Ed community.

We then move into the morning half of the facilitated learning opportunities and into cooking club around 11:30am (buying, preparation and cooking of the food). Donations for food items always welcomed.

Morning Only Sessions are £20 per attendee.

Active Afternoons

Afternoon Session 11:45-14:30 (2.75hrs)

Our Active Afternoon's will have our attendees outside, climbing trees, making dens, playing sports, archery, problem solving team games and more. With a focus on movement and physical wellness as part of our holistic offering.

With the option to take part in the cooking club and following on from our community lunchtime, we will look at Action and Adventure often with hikes and local walks, litter picks, team games like tag tails and even a running club on a Tuesday afternoon. Following the children's interests, we will offer time and space for children to explore different sports too with visiting guest workshops.

Afternoon Only Fee - £20 per attendee.

Out of Season Sessions

All Day non commitment sessions run in "School" Holidays but within our own Edventure terms.

As most of our tribe are Home Educated, we would also like to welcome School Age children from the wider community who are between settings, considering HE and would like a trial or in need of wellbeing support, we will be running holiday time non commitment sessions at £36 per day or £28 half day.

We will have a few activities running through the morning and afternoons which the children can choose and move around.

The routine of the day would be similar to this:

9.30am - Welcome and Mindful Movement

10am - 11am - First Activity - Sports, Bushcraft, Arts and Craft

11am - 12pm - switch around from the above groups.

12-1pm - Communal Lunch (packed) or homemade soup around our fire pit with S'mores.

1pm - 2.30pm - Group Teambuilding Activities or Independent free play on our Field and Woodland site.

ONLY UP TO 14 DAYS PER YEAR FOR NON-HOME ED FAMILIES and within 18 hrs per week.
